This course will introduce students to the field of biotechnology. This course is intended to provide students with a background and basic skills that they will need to enter a beginning level biotechnology position.
Topics include:
- Cell fundamentals
- Genetics
- Cloning,
- Agricultural biotech
- Gene transfers
- Cell culturing
- Ethical issues
...And a survey of applications and careers within this field.
This is a hands-on, laboratory based course, with an emphasis on techniques and skills used in a lab setting. Students will have the opportunity to produce work that may meet the requirements for Expectations 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8 in the graduation Portfolio.
Students will have the opportunity to earn their OSHA10 certification and a biotechnology NOCTI credential in the program.
